Welcome to Criminology and Sociology

The BSc Joint Honours degree programme at Royal Holloway enables you to combine the study of Criminology with Sociology. Sociology is a vast discipline which addresses itself to the manner in which society is structured,  the social institutions which underpin it and the ways in which values and attitudes are formed and change. The discipline draws upon a number of intellectual traditions including positivism, Marxism, feminism and postmodernism.Criminology draws upon psychology, sociology, political sceince and biology. This field of study is centrally concerned with the way in which crimes are committed, how much crime is committed and possible preventative strategies. The degree is taught by staff with internationally recognised expertise in areas such as criminological theory and criminal justice policy, risk and medical sociology.

We welcome candidates from all backgrounds and recognise a variety of UK and international qualifications for entry purposes .
