The Faculty of History & Social Sciences comprises the departments of Economics, Health & Social Care, History, Management, Politics & International Relations. In addition, European Studies is an interdisciplinary development between Arts and History & Social Sciences.
Our diverse programmes of undergraduate and postgraduate study are taught by world-class researchers and experts within the field.
The Faculty performed very strongly in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise. Those departments who did exceptionally well include Economics which was 12th on the Times Higher rankings, the School of Management which was 20th in the Times Higher rankings and History which was 18th in the Research Fortnight rankings. 54% of all research submitted by the Faculty was assessed as being of 4* (world-leading) or 3*, ‘internationally excellent’ quality and 89% was considered to be of international standard. 91% of all eligible Faculty staff were submitted for the Exercise. The Dean of the Faculty, Professor Rosemary Deem, said, "This is a very pleasing outcome for the Faculty and a tribute to all the hard work undertaken by our academics, department research directors and research administrators."
