Matthew Cohen, senior lecturer in the department, will be touring a play for wayang kulit titled Kresna Denawa to Cambridge University (23 October) and Manchester's Royal Northern College of Music (28 November). Dr Cohen is a renowned expert in this traditional form of shadow puppet theatre originating in Java, Indonesia and has performed extensively in Asia, Europe and the United States. He recently spent 8 months in Indonesia and Malaysia, and received a royal title for his contributions to wayang kulit and local culture from the royal court of Kacirebonan. His performances will be accompanied by live gamelan music by the Cambridge University gamelan ensemble and London's South Bank Gamelan Players.
