Programme Activities

The Creativity in Health and Care Workshops Programme comprises a number of different activities.

Multi-disciplinary workshops

A group of fourteen professionals from a range of health, care and creative disciplines have been invited to take part in four workshops over a twelve month period. The workshop participants will be supported by and take part in a blog conversation during the twelve months, elements of which will be posted on the website.

Website

This website aims to provide a space for the findings of this programme and provide an opportunity for continued open comment on the debate.

Publication

In Autumn 2009 a special edition of Health Care Analysis will contain papers arising from the work of the project. Click here for link to the journal.

Other Outcomes

There have been a number of outcomes from the project. 

The following collaborations have already taken place throughout the project or are significantly underway: 

• Janet Hargreaves and Mary Robson – university and creative practitioner project about aspirations for children at Chickenley Junior and Infants School
• Janet Hargreaves, Hannah Bradby and Mary Robson are writing papers and course materials re the use of creative narrative in the health and social care professions for use at the University of Huddersfield and beyond
• Mary Robson is working with partners to co-write papers on efficacy of creative methods at Chickenley Primary School, Dewsbury.
• Emma Brodzinski and Mary Robson have worked together to develop a project around emotional intelligence in Higher Education which has funding from the Educational Development Centre at Royal Holloway, University of London.
• Deborah Munt/Open Art and Janet Hargreaves/University of Huddersfield University – facilitated ½ day of conference using creativity to facilitate reflection and reassessment of professional values and practice
• Von Allen/Open Art and Janet Hargreaves/University of Huddersfield University – delivered lecture on creative practice in health and care into Occupational Therapy undergraduate teaching
• Mary Robson/Deborah Munt/Carol Massey – Mary Robson has initiated a series of Salons as part of her NESTA fellowship.  This is a small group of professionals from different disciplines who are looking at ways of including creativity in CPD for frontline NHS staff

• Publication of edited collection and launch event
• The shaping of a unit on Creative Agency for the BA Drama and Applied Theatre at Central School of Speech and Drama – Martin Heaney
• NHS Review Process – a reconsideration of vision and imagination within the NHS – Carol Massey.  This will feed into…
• ‘The Value of Creativity for Your Organisation’ – an exploration of potential methods for engaging health and care sector, potentially resulting in a workshop approach – Deborah Munt/Open Art and Carol Massey
• Conference paper for international conference in Latvia – Emma Brodzinski & Deborah Munt
• School-wide event on creativity within the School of Health and Human Sciences at University of Huddersfield – Janet Hargreaves and Deborah Munt/Open Art
• Series of day long events for students, teaching staff and health and care service users, exploring use of creative methods/art forms within health and care practice – Deborah Munt/Von Allen/Open Art and University of Huddersfield
• Development of a bid to create a young persons research group who will undertake studies into the barriers and enablers (for young people and adults) of achieving a creative life (healthy life) – Deborah Munt/Open Art and University of Huddersfield
