The following course 'pathways' are available:
The specialist focus on the pathway option is complemented by core taught components:
- Staging the Text
- British Theatre since 1945
- Choreography
- Research Methodologies in preparation for a dissertation relevant to the specialist pathway.
- Staging the Text
- Ancient Greek theatre and its reception (taught in Classics department by Edith Hall)
- Directing (to culminate in the presentation of a Greek-based performance)
- Research Methodologies in preparation for a dissertation relevant to the specialist pathway
A programme of workshops in Greek theatre techniques will complement the directing course.
This programme will not run in 2008-9. However students may apply for another drama pathway, write a dissertation on Greek theatre, and take as their option course the course in Ancient Greek Theatre and its Reception. For further information on this course see crgr.org
MA
in Research
A programme
with three component courses and a dissertation aimed at preparing
students
for full-time doctoral
research. The emphasis
is on owning a range of methodological
and theoretical approaches to the study of theatre and performance.
Students applying
for this programme should indicate the
field of their research interest.
Current students are studying theatre, home and homelessness; theatre during the interregnum; Coleridge and theatre.
MPhil
and PhD By Research
Research for
the traditional degrees of MPhil and PhD is offered in most fields
of drama, theatre and performance. We are now
able to offer a new practice-based PhD examined by thesis and
advanced practice/performance work.
Postgraduate Certificate in Physical Theatre for Dancers and Actors
This postgraduate certificate is a Continuing Professional Development course for postgraduate experienced dancers and actors moving into a new area of work namely dance theatre, introducing new techniques that combine vocal, kinaesthetic and visual skills and responses. The focus of the course will be to understand and explore Vardimon’s method and approach of creating physical theatre work and will be taught by Jasmin Vardimon and the collaborators of the Jasmin Vardimon Company.
