3.2 Fee Payment

Before you are allowed to register as a student, you must provide official confirmation that you or your sponsor has sufficient financial resources to meet tuition and living expenses for the duration of your studies here.

Payments should be made out to RHBNC (Royal Holloway and Bedford New College) in Sterling. You can pay your fees in the following ways:

  • E-Pay (through www.rhul.ac.uk/epay) - this is the method we recommend
  • A cheque or banker's draft payable in the UK.
  • Credit card (MasterCard, Visa etc.)
  • Debit card (Delta, Solo, Switch)
  • Bank-to-bank transfer
  • Travellers cheques (in £ Sterling)
  • Cash

The College does not accept Eurocheques or cheques drawn on an overseas bank. It may also refuse payments in a foreign currency or, if accepted, the College is likely to deduct bank charges. As the UK is outside the Euro currency zone, the Euro is only recognised as a foreign currency, and is subject to a moving exchange rate.

Although you are able to pay all or part of their fees in cash, we would strongly urge you not to carry around large sums of money. Only pay cash or traveller's cheques in person, never by post. Make sure you receive and retain a receipt as evidence of payment.

Please note that you must have the means to pay your tuition fees organised before you start at the College. You will not be allowed to enrol if you cannot pay the amount for which you are liable. If you have a sponsor, please bring with you proof of payment by a third party.

The regulations concerning payment and remission of tuition fees apply to students taking standard undergraduate or postgraduate degree programmes, and most diplomas and certificates. Students with the Language Centre as their home department should refer to the payment requirements specified by the Language Centre for their programme.

An early payment discount may be offered for tuition fees paid in full in advance by September 7th 2007. Please note the discount applies to personal (not sponsored) tuition fee liabilities in respect of standard degree courses starting in September. Language Centre programmes are excluded.

Exceptionally, arrangements may be made with the Student Fees Office to pay tuition fees by up to three instalments. To do so you must have written agreement from the Student Fees Office. There is an administration charge for an instalment facility in the region of £50 - £200 depending on the number of instalments and the value of fees.

If you find yourself in financial difficulties, inform the Student Fees Office immediately in order to negotiate a way round the problem.

Tuition fees are set annually and are adjusted according to inflation and market conditions.
