In the UK all owners of a private television must pay for a television license. Each student who has a television in his or her room in a College residence must obtain a separate television licence (the fine for using a television without a license is £1,000). Students living in a student house where one television is shared by all of the residents may purchase a single license together. A television license can be purchased from a Post Office. You can pay the fee in full or arrange for payment by a monthly direct debit from your bank account.
