Many students take a part time job to supplement their finances while they are at university. You might be looking for part-time employment to help pay your way through university or to help out with cash for those unexpected occasions. It's also a great way to develop your CV ready for when you graduate.
You should limit the number of hours that you work during term-time in order that your academic study does not suffer as a result of your paid employment. What is possible will vary from student to student, and will depend on the nature and location of the work. General guidance is that 20 hours additional work is the maximum that should normally be considered by any student; however care should be taken even with a lesser number of hours, especially if your academic course is at a demanding stage for you, or if your non-academic work requires significant travelling or is in itself demanding. For help finding a part-time job please visit the Careers Service website.
We can also help you to look for outside funding from charities/organisations that are able to distribute money to students depending on their circumstances. All you need to do is fill out a short form and email it to us. We then put this information through a database called FunderFinder which trawls a long list of charities/organisations which offer funding to students. To use this tool please fill out the FunderFinder Form and email it to us at financialadvice@rhul.ac.uk.
