Email Infrastructure

All staff email accounts are provided using the On Premise Exchange system. Students who were allocated with user accounts before 1st August 2009 (email address ends in @rhul.ac.uk) are hosted on the On Premise Exchange system.

Mailbox Sizes

The On Premise Exchange system supports the following mailbox sizes:

• Undergrads: 100MB
• Postgrads: 100Mb
• Staff: 750Mb

Supported Clients

Outlook XP (2002)/2003/2007

Supported Protocols

• IMAPS - Secure IMAP will be used in place of the current standard IMAP implementation.
• POP3S – Secure POP
• MAPI - The standard used by Exchange Server to communicate with Outlook.
• HTTPS - will be the default for the webmail interface.
• RPC/HTTP – This should be the preferred method to access your exchange email as it gives the same look and feel as if connecting with Outlook direct to your exchange server, is accessible from outside the college without the need to establish a VPN and gives access the RHUL address book without the need for more configuration changes.

External Access

Webmail, RPC/HTTP (preferred), Secure IMAP and POP can be used for reading your email from outside the college.
