How to Change your Password in an Open Access PC Lab

Once you have your Computer Username it is strongly recommended that you change your password at the earliest opportunity.

Passwords should contain between 8 and 12 characters and not be something that is easy to guess. A combination of letters and numbers is a good idea, but not your car registration number or date of birth.

a) Log on to a PC in one of the Open Access PC Labs
b) Press [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[Delete] on the keyboard to display the Windows Security dialogue box.
c) Click on the Change Password button. Change Password.
d) The Change Password dialogue box appears, with your computer username inserted into the User name: panel.
e) In the Old Password: text box type in your old password — you will just see a series of asterisks **** for security reasons. Remember that passwords are case sensitive.
f) Click in the New Password: text box and type in a new password; again you will just see a series of asterisks as you type. Remember that passwords are case sensitive.
g) In the Confirm New Password: text box type in the same password again; you will just see a series of asterisks as you type. Remember that passwords are case sensitive.
h) Click on OK to change the password.
i)

If you have done everything correctly you will receive a message telling you that the password has been changed; click on OK to close the message box.

Or

If you have done anything wrong, such as typing different passwords in the New Password: and Confirm New Password: boxes, you will receive an error message.  Take note of its content, then click on OK to return to the Change Password dialogue box where you can rectify the incorrect entry and then carry out steps (h) to (i) again.

j) Click on the Cancel button Cancel to close the Windows Security dialogue box.

Note: if you experience problems please visit the Computer Centre Helpdesk where your password can be reset for you.
