Driving Change: Meeting the Transport Technology Challenges of the 21st Century

Abstract
In developed countries, transport accounts for between a quarter and a third of total CO2 emissions, second only to energy generation. With a target for 2050 to reduce emissions by at least 50% globally and 80% in the developed world, emissions reductions in transport must make a major contribution.
And yet personal mobility is a critical driver of economic growth and personal well being. The aspiration to own a car is high in the developing world and some predictions suggest that the number of motor vehicles world-wide could rise from over a billion today to two billion by 2020.
We need radical solutions to deliver both personal mobility and emissions reduction, and we need them urgently.

The challenge is urgent, but the future doesn’t have to be bleak.
