SWAN Alliance: South West London Academic Network

SouthWest London Academic Network The Alliance has been formed as a result of highly successful collaborative activities between three institutions within the University of London: Royal Holloway, Kingston and St George’s. Supported by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) via its Strategic Development Fund (SDF), the Alliance provides a platform for the institutions to pool existing resources and expertise.

International Links

The CPSO has been developing several relationships with international collaborators. Whilst the Centre has always had strong inter-personal links, it is now moving into a more strategic phase involving institutional collaborations.

Between 2006 and 2007, CPSO members have also visited both Copenhagen and Bocconi to develop research collaborations and deliver lectures and seminars. Prof Ferlie, Dr Addicott and Francesca Frosini visited Bocconi whilst Dr McGivern spent a few weeks in Copenhagen. The CPSO has also hosted Prof Mohammad Yarmohammadian from Isfahan University, Iran.  Building on existing links with Iran, Prof Yarmohammadian spent time at the CPSO conducting research into disaster management in health care.

The CPSO was also pleased to welcome Dr Charlotta Levay (Uppsala University, Sweden) in November 2007. During her visit, Dr Levay delivered a seminar (with Dr Caroline Waks, also from Uppsala) on "Professions and the pursuit of transparency," as well as participating in some undergraduate teaching in public management. The CPSO also welcomed Dr Greta Nasi, who spent part of her sabbatical at Royal Holloway.

Margaret BruntonMore recently in 2008, the CPSO was visited by Margaret Brunton from New Zealand. Margaret is a Senior Lecturer in Management and International Business at the College of Business, Massey University in Auckland, NZ. When visiting us she discussed health reforms in her country and contributed an article to our October 2008 newsletter.
