The School of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures brings together top scholars and teachers in their fields: French, German, Hispanic Studies and Italian. In addition to language, they teach and research literature and linguistics (from the medieval period to the present), film, history, culture and philosophy, and there is a shared commitment to broadening students’ horizons through an in-depth knowledge of other cultures.
Alongside single-honours courses in each of the four language areas, the School has developed a range of exciting cross-departmental and interdisciplinary degree programmes.
The School has a thriving research culture and is the home to major collaborative research grants. Two of the College's four units that received the highest (5*) grade in the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise are housed in the School. Student satisfaction is high, and we pride ourselves on getting acquainted with our students and getting to know their needs.
