Welcome to the Music Department at Royal Holloway

Studying Music at Royal Holloway provides the opportunity to expand your knowledge of music from a variety of practical, historical, global and contemporary standpoints.You can develop your skills in performance, music history and theory, composition, world music and music technology, all within a framework that rewards serious intellectual engagement with various forms of music in the many spaces that it occupies in today's world.

Our nationally and internationally-renowned Music Department is one of the UK's largest. Our teaching at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels has been consistently at the forefront of the discipline.

We were rated top department in the UK in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise and awarded the highest grade of 5* in the two previous assessment exercises (1996 and 2001).  We were rated 5th in the 2010 Music Department rankings in both The Times and The Independent (correct as of June 2010).
