John Mattausch is interested in explanatory analysis and in particular the role of chance in effecting sociopolitical change. He also has a long-standing interest in the history of the British in Gujarat, a state in western India, the four centuries of shared British-Gujarati history, and the changing sociopolitical position of the British in India.
