The London-Paris Programme

Study Abroad students who wish to visit two countries during their year abroad can participate in a unique programme spending time in London and Paris. A special consortium of institutions allows a range of collaboration between Royal Holloway, Queen Mary and the University of London Institute in Paris (ULIP).

Please note that this Programme is open to Study Abroad Students only. Students participating in the Student Exchange Programme are not currently eligible to participate.

The Institute is situated in the heart of the French capital in the beautiful 7è arrondissement close to Les Invalides. Regular collaboration between the teaching and research staff within the consortium ensures vital continuity in the planning of tutorial provision throughout the year. Accommodation is arranged in London on the Royal Holloway campus and in Paris by the Institute, either as homestay with French families or in modern student residences.

The Eiffel Tower

Students can spend half of their academic year (either September to December, or January to June) at Royal Holloway taking classes in the French Department in the purpose-built International Building. Assessment takes the form of a combination of coursework essays and language assignments and some end-of-semester examinations.

The other half of the academic year (either September to December, or January to May) provides the opportunity to study in Paris in a welcoming, French-speaking environment which students to absorb directly the culture and language they are studying. While in Paris, students have access to the very wide range of cultural venues and activities that are available to all Institute students. Courses are available in French Language, French Art (with weekly museum visits), French Theatre (with theatre visits), and French Film (with weekly screenings). Assessment takes the form of written assignments for each option course and a practical language examination. Click here to access full details of the courses available at the Institute.
