Fees and Expenses
The Study Abroad Programme at Royal Holloway is structured according to three possible Study Options. An integrated programme fee is charged for the different periods covered by the different Study Options. We believe that the Study Abroad Programme fee offers excellent value for money and is very competitive when compared to similar schemes available in the UK. The fees for 2008/9 are listed below.

Certain minor incidental expenses are not included in the programme fee, such as occasional photocopying, landline telephone installations and rental charges, some teaching materials.
If you are personally responsible for payment of the programme fee, as opposed to yor home institution paying required by the first day of enrolment at Royal Holloway. Click here for details of how to pay. Information regarding payment is also sent to you in the pre-enrolment pack prior to departure from your home country, following confirmation of your acceptance of an offer to study at the College
Living Expenses
In addition to the programme fee, you will need to budget for living expenses. Fortunately, the costs of living at Royal Holloway are among the most competitive in the UK. The Virgin Alternative Guide to Universities puts Royal Holloway as the cheapest university in London for rents and ‘survival’ (food, drink and entertainment).
It is hard to demonstrate a standard set of costs, since much depends on individual taste and lifestyle. In general, however, about £90 per week will cover meals, some local travel, study-related costs, entertainment and other personal items.
Financial Aid
You should check with your home institution to identify what forms of financial aid may be available to help fund a period of Study Abroad. You may be able to continue with your current funding regime while abroad, and some universities may have dedicated bursary schemes to assist with some of the additional expenses incurred in Study Abroad such as air travel or health insurance. Below is an example of expenses you may need to budget for during your study period at Royal Holloway.

Royal Holloway Study Abroad Scholarships
Royal Holloway offers annual Study Abroad Scholarships. The scholarships are intended to provide some modest support to students with demonstrable need for additional financial assistance. The value of each scholarship is £1,000, which is payable against the appropriate programme fee.
To apply for a scholarship, you must check the appropriate box on the Study Abroad Programme application form, provide a personal statement explaining why you should be considered for the scholarship and a letter of recommendation from a professor who is aware of your financial situation. You should also arrange for the financial aid office at your home institution to send a supporting statement to the College.
The deadline for receipt of application forms and other documents is 31 May for September entry, 31st October for January entry. Students from the USA seeking similar financial support might also wish to apply to the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship program.
