Immigration & Visas
From 1st September 2007, new immigration rules were introduced, and all students wishing to enter the UK to study are required to obtain entry clearance (more commonly known as a visa).
Student Visitor Visa
This has been introduced for students who wish to study in the UK for up to six months maximum but do not wish to take up part-time employment, volunteer or any internship. Students cannot extend their stay though. These visas are issued as you enter the UK.
You will need your offer of acceptance from RHUL and a valid passport.
Student Visa
If you wish to study in the UK for six months or more or if you wish to study for six months or less but wish to undertake part-time work, then you will need to apply for a full student visa prior to departure, via British Consulates in the US.
To find out more about obtaining a visa in the US, www.britainusa.com/visas is a very useful website.
If you are not a US citizen and wish to find out if you require a visa, go to www.ukvisas.gov.uk..
If you have any questions, please contact Mrs Denise Keable, RHUL's Deputy Head of Support & Advisory Services.
