Please follow these guidelines if you are planning to produce a publication:
Contact the Design Studio, part of the External Relations Office, at a very early stage to discuss your intended project in outline. Design Studio Coordinator ext 3006. Your job will then be logged onto the system.
The Design Studio team have professional design and publication production experience and given this opportunity can help you clarify your requirements at the outset. With a clear brief the job can often move forward quickly.
The Publications & Web Manager and the Publications Officer provide help and advice on corporate copy, and will be involved with content and brand matters. They will be happy to have a Project Meeting with you to discuss your requirements.
NB There are subsidies for publications that relate to student recruitment, this can be established at the outset.
Once you have your final approved copy, photographs and/or suitable illustrations send them to the Design Studio Coordinator.
The Design Studio has a vast library of photographic images and graphics, which can used to enhance your publication. They can also source images from photo libraries and organise photo shoots. The Design Studio is not responsible for obtaining clearances, approvals or copyright of images supplied to them.
This will be presented to you as soon as possible. Successive lasers or PDF proofs will follow as appropriate until you are ready to sign the job off for it to go to printer’s proof stage.
While the design/artwork is underway the Design Studio Coordinator will obtain printing estimates.
The Design Studio has no budget to print publications you will be asked to provide your cost code to put onto the purchase order. (Subject to the College's financial rules about obtaining competitive quotations).
The Design Studio will raise a purchase order that will be sent to you for an authorising signature, your cost code and any delivery instructions.
You keep the yellow copy and returns the rest to the Design Studio Co-ordinator.
A printer's proof will be produced. The Design Studio will check for any errors and will consult you if necessary.
On delivery of the finished publication the Design Studio Coordinator will arrange distribution as required.
The Design Studio makes a limited internal College distribution. The required numbers of copies are also sent to the Copyright Libraries.
