Royal Holloway student gives an outstanding performance in IRB U21 World Championships

Henry Barratt, a student from Royal Holloway, University of London, gave an outstanding performance in the IRB U21 World Championships, which were held in Scotland and finished this week.

Henry, a second year management student and international rugby player, was instrumental in wins over Argentina, and a double-win over the Welsh. Finishing fifth in the tournament in the shadow of mighty champions New Zealand, the English team still had plenty to be proud of, achieving their best ever finish in the tournament
so far.

U21 manager Peter Drewitt gave Henry special praise: "Henry has worked hard on his game, particularly under the high ball, and on his conditioning. He's looking a very strong player and the fact that he can play wing, centre and full back makes him very useful."

Henry is part of the Student Talented Athlete Recognition Scheme (STARS) - a scholarship scheme run by the College. Launched in 1996, the scheme offers elite student athletes financial support, in addition to mentoring, and access to extensive new on-campus sporting facilities.

Royal Holloway's Business & Sports Development Executive, John Salberg said: "Henry is a very special athlete. He manages to balance his academic studies with playing top level rugby with relative ease, and is a great example to other students at the College. I am convinced he has a very bright future ahead of him."

Created in 1989, the English U21 age group has acted as a springboard for future rugby stars, fostering world-class players such as Jonny Wilkinson, Lawrence Dallaglio, Richard Hill, Mike Catt, Simon Shaw and Will Greenwood.
