Royal Holloway opens doors for annual garden party

Royal Holloway, University of London will host its annual party in the grounds of Thomas Holloway's Victorian college on Sunday 6 June from 1 to 5.30pm.

The community function, supporting the Mayor of Runnymede's Shooting Star Trust Children's Hospice and other local charities, brings in families and crowds every year to the splendour of the prestigious Founder's building. Last year was a great success, marking the tenth anniversary of the event with over £2,500 donated to charity from the proceeds.

Activities this year include art and craft stalls, magic shows, children's rides, face painting, games and quizzes as well as a number of talks, including one on the legacy of Thomas Holloway's university building by local historian Richard Williams; the valuable Victorian painting collection in the college's Picture Gallery will also be open for visitors. A raffle will take place with prizes already donated by leading organizations: Procter & Gamble, The Wentworth Club and Kew Gardens. The numerous cake, jewellery and bric-a-brac stalls, a barbecue and live music are also highlights of the day.

All visitors are also welcome to a traditional Thanksgiving Service in the College's beautiful chapel featuring a sermon from Dr Peter Vardey, Vice-Principal of Heythrop College, University of London. This will take place at 6pm.

Entry to the garden party is £1 (free for children under 10 years). Public enquiries to Royal Holloway's External Relations Office on 01784 443004.
