The lecture, The Origins of Glamour: Wealth and Sex Appeal in Europe and America 1800-1960, by Professor Stephen Gundle, will take place at the Guildford Museum, on Thursday 9 December at 7.30pm. The lecture will explore how and why a culture of visual seduction took shape in the modern era, and examine the history of its component parts of wealth, style, sex appeal, fame and movement. |
Stephen Gundle is Professor of Italian Cultural History, Academic Co-ordinator and Director of Graduate Studies at Royal Holloway, University of London. He is author of I comunisti italiani tra Hollywood e Mosca: la sfida della cultura di massa (1943-1991) (Florence, 1995), and of numerous studies and articles on contemporary Italian political parties, cultural change, and intellectual movements.
The Guildford Museum Lecture Series, launched in 1994, aims to encourage public interest in archaeology, history and the fine arts. For the fifth year running the lecturers come from Royal Holloway, University of London.
