Vipère au Poing:

Soundtrack Music by Brian Lock

Royal Holloway lecturer, Brian Lock, has written the score to Vipère au Poing, an eagerly awaited film which is released in France this month.

Based on a popular children's book by Hervé Bazin, the film stars two of France's most well-known actors, Jacques Villeret and Catharine Frot.

Brian, who has also written scores for The Land Girls starring Anna Friel and The Gambler starring Michael Gambon, recorded the soundtrack for Vipère au Poing at Abbey Road studios in London.

"Vipère au Poing is a story of great finesse and complexity, which closely explores relationships between a mother, her husband and her sons," says Brian. "The story offers the music the possibility of emphasising the strength of feelings and emotions between several characters. I chose to use a chamber orchestra to reflect the intimacy of relationships between family members."

Lecturer in Music and Director of the new MMus degree in Composition at Royal Holloway, Brian teaches Composition, Practical and Creative Orchestration, and Music Technology courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He recently designed Royal Holloway's new music studio in which he teaches the studio-based courses.

A soundtrack CD album with Brian's music has been released on EMI Virgin Classics and is available at www.fnac.com/
