The story of a teenage lifeguard, who has to deal with two children dying on his watch, will undoubtedly captivate members of the public and students at the latest event in Royal Holloway’s reading series.
On Thursday 22 November, author Kenneth Macleod will read an extract from his debut novel which transports readers to 1980s Germany, following three people and capturing three pivotal moments in their lives.
The story follows Craig, an expert swimmer and lifeguard, whose grandfather Gordon McInnes was on board a ship torpedoed during the war and survived by clinging to the body of one of his colleagues. Then, one day, an accident happens that Craig will forever have to live with.
Speaking about his upcoming visit to Royal Holloway, Kenneth said: “It is an honour to be invited to read from my novel by such a distinguished group as the Creative Writing| programme at Royal Holloway. I'm thoroughly looking forward to it and the opportunity to meet students, staff, and members of the local community.
“I also can't wait to see the University's architecture and grounds. I’ve heard the Founders Building in particular, is meant to be incredible and one of the most beautiful buildings in the world.”
Kenneth will read from The Incident at 1pm on Thursday 22 November, in the Queens Building Lecture Theatre at Royal Holloway. A Q&A will follow the reading.
The event is free and all are welcome to attend. For more information, visit the Lunchtime Reading series webpage|.
