Royal Holloway, University of London has teamed up with Mercedes-Benz Driving Academy| to deliver a one-day ‘Apprentice style’ Enterprise Challenge.
Held at Mercedes-Benz World in Weybridge, Surrey, the competition on 1 December will provide 50 sixth form students from local schools and colleges with the opportunity to design a new product or service in a task similar to those set by business tycoon Lord Alan Sugar on the hit BBC One show ‘The Apprentice.’
Alexander Hobbach, Senior Manager from Business Innovation at Daimler, the parent company for Mercedes-Benz, will be flying over from Stuttgart to present the keynote speech and set the task for the day. Alexander said: “With experience of establishing Mercedes-Benz Driving Academy, our pioneering driving school, we are delighted to be involved with the event and to give our own world leading perspective on quality and service.”
Dr Alex Reppel from the School of Management at Royal Holloway will deliver a workshop and help support the students through the task. They will be put through their paces and will work in teams on key areas including innovation and differentiation, communications and management, business analysis and decision making. They will then create a business and marketing plan for their product or service. At the end of the day, the teams will pitch their ideas to a panel of experts to judge.
A presentation ceremony and evening reception will follow with a range of great prizes up for grabs for the teams with the best proposal and most creative presentation.
Rob Kemp, Deputy Principal at Royal Holloway said: “We are absolutely delighted to be working in partnership with Mercedes-Benz to deliver this year’s enterprise challenge, and I am certain that the young people participating in the event will benefit enormously from the support and involvement of such a prestigious, innovative and global company. This initiative fits very well with one of our key institutional priorities, namely to strengthen links and develop lasting partnerships with the business community.”
Royal Holloway was founded in 1886, the same year that Karl Benz patented the world’s first motor car. Both brands are synonymous with quality and innovation. The Enterprise Challenge marks the beginning of a valuable partnership and celebrates the joint 125 year anniversary next year.
