Getting here

Surrey

Students at main entrance

Royal Holloway's main campus is in Surrey, just 19 miles from central London. Excellent road and transport links are an important feature of our location.

By air

We are just seven miles from London Heathrow Airport|.

Taxis are available at the airport, but you should check the fare in advance; it is cheaper to telephone one of the local taxi services. Alternatively, take bus number 441 from Heathrow Central Bus Station to the College or bus number 71 from Terminal 5.

From Gatwick Airport|, take the bus to Heathrow and follow the procedure above, or telephone for a taxi.

By rail

The College is connected by fast rail links to the rest of the country.

Excellent train links to the rest of the country are available via the London stations or Reading. There are frequent services from London Waterloo to Egham (40 minutes), Reading to Egham (40 minutes), and Woking to Egham (35 minutes; change at Weybridge). Services at weekends, especially those on Sunday, are less frequent than on weekdays. Eurostar services to mainland Europe also operate into and out of London.

For local train timetables please visit the South West Trains website: www.southwesttrains.co.uk|

For national rail enquiries please visit: www.nationalrail.co.uk|

By taxi from Egham Station

There is a taxi rank at Egham  station and another just outside; turn right onto Station Road and there is a taxi office on the left, next to the Build Center. The fare is about £5.

Some local taxi firms include:

  • Area Cars 01784 471001
  • Egham Cars 01784 434646
  • Gemini Cars 01784 471111
  • Windsor Cars 01753 677677

On foot from Egham Station

The College is about a mile from the station, approximately 20 minutes walk.

  • Turn right out of the station along Station Road and walk about 100 yards to the junction and the traffic lights
  • Turn left at the junction and follow the road to the large roundabout where there is a petrol station on the left.  Go left up Egham Hill (A30) and follow the footpath
  • The main College entrance is on the left immediately after the second footbridge.

By road

We are within a few minutes of the M25, M3 and M4.

The College is on the A30, 19 miles from central London and about a mile south-west of the town of Egham. It is two miles from Junction 13 of the M25 (London Orbital).

Directions from the M25

  • After leaving the M25, follow the A30 west (signposted Bagshot and Camberley); this is the Egham by-pass
  • At the end of the Egham by-pass, continue on the A30 up Egham Hill (a petrol station is on your left)
  • The main College entrance is on the left immediately after the second footbridge

Directions from the west

  • From the west leave the M3 at Junction 3 north and follow the A30 towards Staines and London
  • Then follow steps two to three in the M25 section

Avoiding the M25

To avoid the M25 when travelling from the South or South West on the M4 or the M3, take the A329(M) from the M4 at junction 10, or the A322 from the M3 at junction 3. The A3229(M) becomes the A322 at Bracknell and connects with the A30 at Bagshot. Continue on the A30 through Sunningdale and Virginia Water towards Staines and you will pass the College campus.

To avoid the M25 from the M40 coming from the Midlands, leave the M40 at junction 4 on to the A404 towards Maidenhead. Join the A308 at Maidenhead which will take you through Windsor and Old Windsor. Turn right at the roundabout after a Harvester Pub called the Bells of Ousley for a shortcut to the College through Englefield Green village on the A328.

Car Parking

Please note that car parking on campus is limited to permit holders.  Parking for visitors is normally reserved in advance, usually outside of Founder's Building.  For Open days, UCAS days, special events and conferences parking will be reserved in designated areas on campus.

By bus

The following buses stop outside the College:

  • Travel Surrey 441 (Heathrow to Englefield Green)
  • First 71 (Heathrow to Slough)

For local bus information, visit Surrey County Council’s website: www.surreycc.gov.uk|

There is also a College bus service, during term time, which runs between Egham railway station and the campus. The College bus, like the taxis, leaves from the main car park adjacent to the station.
