Jackie Hunter

Dr Jackie Hunter

Dr Jackie Hunter CBE (BSc Physiology & Psychology, 1977; PhD Psychology, 1981 Bedford College) has been awarded the CBE for services to the pharmaceutical industry. Formerly Senior VP and Head of Science Environment Development at GlaxoSmithKline, she recently formed Pharmivation Ltd, a consultancy focusing on open innovation in life sciences. Read more|.

Marie Erwood MBE (BA History, 1974 Bedford College) was also recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours with an MBE for services to education. Marie is Assistant Headteacher of Stewards School in Harlow, Essex. Read more|.

Jane Gardam OBE FRSL (BA English, 1949 Bedford College) the distinguished and prolific novelist received an Honorary Doctorate of the University of London from the College during Graduation Week in July. Jane has won numerous literary awards including the Whitbread Award, twice. Her popular novel, Old Filth, was nominated for the Orange Prize in 2005. Its sequel, The Main in the Wooden Hat, featured on many lists of the best books of 2009. Read more|.

Professor Jocelyn Hicks (BSc Physiology, 1959 Bedford College) the distinguished clinical biochemist also received an Honorary Doctorate from the College in a special ceremony during Graduation Week. Professor Hicks has lived in America for over 40 years. She was Director of the Centre for Complex Diseases at the Children's National Medical Centre, Washington, DC, and is a Past President of the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine. Professor Hicks is frequently invited to speak internationally on paediatric clinical chemistry. Read more|.
