Vivienne Parry receives an OBE

The Queen has conferred honours on two alumni and an Honorary Fellow in the New Year's Honours List. The journalist and broadcaster Vivienne Parry OBE (BSc Zoology, 1978 Bedford College) was made an OBE for her services to the public understanding of science. Read more|. Businessman Ashok Rabheru CVO (MPhil Mathematics, 1975 Royal Holloway College) was awarded a CVO (Commander of the Victorian Order) in recognition of his work for The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Read more|. The founder of Reed Executive, Sir Alec Reed CBE (Honorary Fellow and former Visiting Professor), was knighted for services to business and charity. Read more|.

In the coming months, the College’s performing alumni are on the road in force. First up is Lenny Henry CBE (MA Media Studies, 2010) with the 67-date From Cradle to Rave tour. This is the comedian's return to stand-up after an award-wining stint as Othello. The tour starts this week and will keep him on the road well into May. Read more|. Scottish singer-songwriter KT Tunstall (BA Drama & Music, 1996) promotes her recent top 5 album, Tiger Suit, with a tour in February and March. Read more|. The rapper Example  (aka Elliot Gleave, BA Media Arts, 2003), currently riding high after his last album also went top 5, sets out on his second UK tour in February and March. Read more|. Comedian Robin Ince (BA English & Drama, 1991) takes his ever popular and award-winning Bad Book Club on the road in March and April. Read more|. The blues duo Smoke Fairies (Katherine Blamire & Jessica Davies, both BA History, 2004) have just completed a European tour and embark on their first headlining UK tour this week. Read more|. Comedy Store favourite John Moloney (BA German, 1988) headlines a week at the Leicester Square Theatre in March. Read more|.

Natasha Lavender (European Studies undergraduate, 2007-11) was elected as the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead's youngest councillor at a by-election on 6 January 2011. She is now Conservative Councillor for the Park Ward in Windsor and plans to do a Masters in Politics when she graduates. Read more|.

James Hatts (BA History & Spanish, 2004) founded the excellent London website SE1| whilst still at school. 12 years later the website boasts half a million visits every month and was amongst the first experimenters with Google Maps and Audioboo. Read more|.
