Helen Reid
Award winning musician Helen Reid is returning to Royal Holloway, University of London to perform a special Alumni Concert and to hold a masterclass for current students.
Helen, who graduated in 2000 with a BA in Music and German, first came to public attention when she appeared on BBC2 in the National Keyboard Finals of the BBC Young Musician competition in 1998. She has since given recitals throughout the UK and all over Europe.
She will return for the special Alumni Concert on Wednesday 9 November, which will feature recitals of Debussy, Faure, Bach and Brahms.
Speaking ahead of the recital, Helen says: “The programme is a real mix of old and new from Bach to a recent piece by Peter Wiegold which is impressionistic in style and very evocative. I actually met Peter at Royal Holloway where he taught composition. I wasn't any good at composing, but I was quite good at playing other people's and I premiered one of his works during my time as a student.”
This is the first time Helen has returned to perform at the College. She says: “I loved studying at Royal Holloway. There was such a vibrant atmosphere and a beautiful campus. I enjoyed living in Founders Hall for my first and last years.”
Helen adds: “I'm really looking forward to coming back and performing in the Picture Gallery without the pressure of a final recital exam this time! I'm also looking forward to taking a masterclass and seeing what the pianists are up to at Royal Holloway now.”
