Bedford College Reunion at the House of Commons

Bedford College Reunion

On Wednesday 9th May 2012 the Alumni Office welcomed over 190 Bedford College alumni and former staff to the House of Commons for an Afternoon Tea.  The event was made possible by the kind sponsorship of Bedford alumna Valerie Vaz MP (Biochemistry, 1978). Alumni and former staff from 1938-1986 and across all disciplines met at the Commons to reminisce about and celebrate Bedford College.

Royal Holloway merged with Bedford College, another pioneering institution founded in 1849 by Elizabeth Jesser Reid. The colleges had become part of the University of London in 1900 when the University first awarded degrees to women, and both began to admit male undergraduates from 1965.

The merger of these two like-minded institutions in 1985 to become Royal Holloway and Bedford New College strengthened our historical commitment to high standards and access for all.
