About us

Welcome to the School of Biological Sciences. We offer an exciting range of single and joint honours degree programmes in organismal and molecular biosciences. All of our courses are taught by specialist staff with high professional standards and international reputations. We take great pride in our approachability, friendliness and the support that we offer our students. Our teaching quality has been consistently recognised as outstanding, and a score of 24 out of 24 was achieved in the most recent Teaching Quality Assessment.

Our research is of international excellence. The RAE 2008 ranked us joint 3rd in the UK based upon the proportion of 3* and 4* research outputs and placed us as the top department in London and the south east. Postgraduate training is provided for MSc and PhD degrees, based on the School's research strengths in biomedical sciences, plant molecular biology, ecology, evolution and behaviour and systems biology.

Hema

“I decided to study Biomedical Sciences at Royal Holloway because the course

offered such a broad range of topics. I found it intellectually

stimulating and the modules very interesting. Because the library had been newly refurbished, and departmental facilities such as laboratories, seminar rooms and equipment are so up to date, it made it enjoyable and easy for me to complete my degree."

- Hema, BSc Biomedical Sciences
