Careers Advice

Quick query sessions

  • Monday to Thursday, 11am - 12 noon and 2pm - 4pm.
    During vacations 2pm - 4pm only.
  • Talk to a Careers Adviser for 15 minutes about any aspect of career choice and job hunting or get help with your CV or application forms.
  • No appointment is necessary, just sign the list in the Careers Library on the day you want an appointment, from 10am when we open or from 9.45am if you phone in (01784 443073).
  • Arrangements during vacations are posted on the Hot News page.

Longer careers discussions

  • A longer appointment may be recommended to you by an adviser following an initial quick query consultation and will be booked on completion of a Career Discussion Form.

Computer-aided career guidance

sort_it is a collection of interactive modules designed to increase your ability to manage your career, from choosing your future path to settling in to your new job.

The self-access web based careers guidance programme, Prospects Planner, is now available online at www.prospects.ac.uk/links/Pplanner

  • To use Prospects Planner, you will need a My Prospects account. This is so that your results can be saved and you can resume your analyses without having to start Planner again.
  • You can build your own list of preferred jobs in "My types of job"
  • The "What to do next?" section gives useful pointers as to what to do with your results
  • You can either complete skills/motivations profiles and match these to jobs or identify jobs and match these to your skills/motivation profiles
  • You can compare occupational profiles, compare job matches, identify good and poor matches
  • There is a report facility to show your jobs lists, skills/motivations profiles, good and poor matches
  • Please feel free to print off your profile and bring it in to the Careers Centre either to do more research with our resources or to discuss with a Careers Adviser
  • A handout "Introducing Prospects Planner" is available in the Careers Centre.
