About us

The Classics Department offers wide-ranging and intellectually stimulating programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

In classics, you can learn Latin and Greek, study archaeology, ancient history, ancient philosophy and literature at all levels from introductory to research.

All our staff are active and enthusiastic researchers, with a strong track record of publications. The Classics Department has active graduate programmes at MA and research levels, a track record of attracting a number of significant research projects, and access to the world-class research resources of the University of London. We are also an online host of the Council of University Classical Departments|.

The Department is located in the Founder’s Building, in the heart of Royal Holloway’s spectacular campus.  To find out more about our friendly and supportive Department, browse the rest of this site or – even better – come and visit us in person, either on an Open Day or by individual arrangement.

Camron

"Classics is a truly multidisciplinary subject – one studies military, social and economic history, literature and foreign languages, all within one department. Employers know that such rigorous academics require self-discipline, and therefore value Classics graduates, and during the course itself, the department’s small size and excellent pastoral care means that you always feel as if somebody’s looking out for you."

 - Camron, English and Classical Studies
