Research - Earth Sciences

The RAE panel for Earth Systems and Environmental Sciences rated 70% of research by the department as world-leading or internationally excellent in terms of originality, significance and rigour. We have long been one of the leading centres for Earth Science research in the country and this has been reinforced by this recognition from the RAE panel. The department, which has grown by 40% since 2001, combines academic excellence with industrial and societal relevance in its research into the past, present and future of Planet Earth and its resources.

For convenience, our research activities have been divided into the three main themes highlighted below but, in reality, much of our most exciting and innovative science occurs in overlaps between these themes.

green10 Global Environmental Change| (GEC)

red10 Geodynamics & Sedimentary Systems| (GSS)

blue10 Physics & Chemistry of Earth Processes| (PCEP)
