Energy

Whether we want warmth, light or power we need energy. Energy is produced by burning fossil fuels (coal, gas and oil), a process which gives off 'greenhouse' gases. Increasing levels of these greenhouse gases contribute to climate change and there is growing consensus that climate change is becoming the greatest threat to our environment.

Using energy intelligently has several important benefits, including:

  • Saving money
  • Reducing carbon dioxide emissions (the main gas involved in global warming)
  • Reducing the need for new power stations and energy infrastructure
  • Reducing our reliance on imported oil and gas
