Travel Awards and College Prizes

Each year, a number of Awards, Funds and Prizes are available to students or graduates of the College. The awards and prizes available this year are listed below and applications are invited from eligible current and former students.

Awards are split under the sub headings of Travel Awards or College Awards. Some awards are only intended for either Undergraduate or Postgraduate students. Please read through the tabbed area below for more information about the Awards, and click on each title for further details.  The closing date for applications is Friday 27th April 2012.

Travel Awards

Peter Marsh Prize in Ecology or Conservation| (Not Available 2011-12)

Numer of Awards: 0

This prize is only available for Biological Science Students and is normally awarded to assist a second-year undergraduate with field trip expenses for an Ecology or Conservation project.

Dame Felicity Lott Bursary| (Not Available 2011-12)

Number of Awards: 0
The Dame Felicity Lott Bursary will be awarded to one student graduating from Royal Holloway hoping to pursue a career in performance. The money will go towards professional performance training or further study in the field.

College Awards

Max Carey Memorial Prize| (Not Available 2011-12)

Number of Awards: 0
The Max Carey Memorial Prize is awarded for work showing inititaive and enterprise. Academic work is not usually considered for this award, except if it is exceptional.

Mary Macpherson Prize|

Number of Awards: 1 of £1500
This prize will be awarded for the best piece of journalism published in either student publications, The Orbital or The Founder.

Travel Awards

Ethel Beatrice Abrahams Travel Award|

Number of Awards: 2 of £750
Open to Postgraduate students pursuing research or advanced studies in Greek. While this prize is normally only awarded for one year, it may be renewed annually for up to a maximum of three years.

Helen Cam Award|

Number of Awards: 1 of £1000
Open to Postgraduate students or Research Fellows attached to the Department of History. The award is made to a student studying in the fields of Medieval History and Legal & Constitutional Modern Western European History and will provide a contribution towards exceptional research expenses.

Una Ellis-Fermor Award|

Number of Awards: 2 of £1000
This award assists with expenses, including travelling, connected with publication of scholarly work in the fields of English, Scandinavian and Irish Drama.

Dame Margaret Tuke Travel Bursary|

Number of Awards: 2 of £250
This bursary is open to Postgraduate students and contributes towards expenses for travel abroad in connection with a definite cultural project (but is not limited to projects of an academic nature).

 

Travel Awards

Lionel Butler Travel Bursary|

Number of Awards: 1 of £300
Open to undergraduate or postgraduate students.  This bursary contributes towards travel expenses, where travelling will enable the students to enhance their academic work or broaden their experience.  It cannot be used towards conference expenses. 

Grenville Cole Travel Bursary| (Not Available 2011-12)

Number of Awards: 0
This bursary will be used for travel in the UK for worthwhile extra-curricular activities.

Victoria Hazlitt Memorial Fund| (Not Available 2011-12)

Number of Awards: 0
This award is to assist with travel or reserach equipment for those studying in the Department of Psychology. Candidates must be either an Undergraduate (Third Year) or Postgraduate Student.  Students must have been enrolled on the programme for at least two academic sessions.

Irene Marshall Scholarship|

Number of Awards: 1 of £500
This scholarship may be awarded for travel within the Commonwealth for study in the fields of Geography and Botany.

Edna Purdie Memorial Fund| (Not Available 2011-12)

Number of Awards: 0
This grant is intended to assist with the completion or publication of a scholarly work in Germanic or English Studies.

The Helen Shackleton Fund|

Number of Awards: 7 of £2000
Open to Undergraduate and Postgraduate students to assist in their studies, usually towards foreign travel connected to their academic work.

Constance West Travel Award| (Not Available 2011-12)

Number of Awards: 0
This award contributes towards travel expenses, cost of further courses and/or training for students of Modern Languages.

College Awards

Kathleen Nixon Award|

Number of Awards: 2 of £2000
This Award is open to female students graduating this academic year, and is intended to help with training for a profession or a vocation at the end of a current degree programme.  Normally awarded for one year.

The deadline for applications for the 2011-12 academic year is Friday 27th April 2012. We look forward to receiving your form. You will be informed of the outcome of your application in June.
