Counselling
At some time during your three years at Royal Holloway you may find yourself in a situation that is unfamiliar to you, emotionally challenging, and you don't know how to handle it. You may also find that you would rather not talk to family, friends or the department and it is at times such as these that the Counselling Service can offer you some support.
-
If you would like to make an appointment to see a counsellor you can either contact us by phone on 01784 443 128 or drop us an email at counsellingrhul.ac.uk or even pop into the office at FW171 between Monday - Friday 9am - 12 pm and 1 pm - 4 pm.
If you need help when counselling is not available or for an emergency
In addition to an appointment with the service, we can offer a number of alternative sources of help to our current students.
Online help – we have a common problem page and we can offer you a link to an interactive page which uses the techniques of solution-focused therapy entitled Ways Forward to give you a start at thinking about a reasonably straightforward issue such as an academic problem. If depression is a problem you are experiencing information is available at studentdepression.org. Also, if you would like some useful tips on wellbeing issues such as how to learn to relax, a helpful 10 minute podcast is available from the Mental Health Foundation on the help and information home page.
Someone to talk to – College subscribes to the student Nightline service (number below) which can be rung between 6pm and 8am in term-time. You will be talking to a trained student volunteer from a London University College. You can also ring the Samaritans (number below).
In an emergency – If you are feeling acutely suicidal or have suffered some other severe trauma or are acutely unwell (or if you are seeking help for another student who is in such circumstances) please ring the Health Centre (you will be transferred to the out-of-hours service if the Health Centre is closed); our Security if you are in residence; or if appropriate the emergency services on 999.
