Welcome to Royal Holloway's Health Centre. The Health Centre is a branch surgery of the Clarence Medical Centre in Windsor. With the surgery being on campus, it couldn't be easier for you to check your health throughout the year. We are here to help, so, however big or small your concern, do drop by and book an appointment with one of our friendly doctors or nurses.
As a new student to the college, it's really important that you register with the health as soon as possible, so you can make the most of our services throughout the year. If you still haven't registered, please get in touch so we can give you all the documents you need to get started. Please keep us informed of any change of contact details including your address and phone number, so we can keep our records up to date and maintain vital contact when necessary.

We aim to offer support throughout the year, and offer various services to ensure you remain at your healthiest while you are studying here. Our staff are on hand to assist during our opening hours. Full NHS service provisions are available to all registered students and first aid to all students, staff and visitors during opening times, whether you're registered or not.
It is important to visit or call us to book an appointment with any of our doctors. Please assist us in ensuring the smooth running of the Health Centre by letting us know if you will be unable to attend your appointment as soon as you know, this way we can offer that slot to someone who may need it. If there is a particular doctor you'd like to see, please make this known to the receptionist on booking your appointment who will try their best to accommodate you (earlier appointments may be available if you have no preference). An appointment with a doctor may not always be available on the day. (Always ask to speak to a nurse who may be able to assist you.)
The doctors are available by appointment at the following times:
During term time: Monday to Friday 9:00am to 11:30 am and 2:30 pm to 4:30pm.
During vacation time: Monday to Friday 2:30pm to 4:30pm.
There's no need to book an appointment to see a nurse, they are available at the following times:
During term time: Monday to Friday 8:00am to 1:00pm and 2:00pm to 6:00pm.
Saturday: 10.00am to 1.00pm (Emergencies only)
Sexual Health & Contraception Wednesday: 3.00pm to 6.00pm ( By Appointment)
During vacation Time: Monday to Friday 9:00am to 1:00pm and 2:00pm to 4.30pm.
As well as general health support, we also offer advice or additional services including asthma, diabetes, contraception, sexual health, foreign travel advice, travel vaccinations, minor surgery, maternity care and cervical smears. Ask at reception, or one of our nurses for more information on any of these.
A doctor may, if necessary, also refer you to any one of our visiting specialists including; Clinical Psychologist; Physiotherapist; Psychiatrist; or Community Psychiatric Nurse.
Repeat prescriptions; can only be made in person or by written request. If you are unable to collect your prescription, a stamped self addressed envelope is required. On first registering with the Health Centre all requests for repeat prescriptions will require an appointment with a doctor for authorization. After this all you need to do is present the repeat slip, which was attached to the previous prescription and leave 48 hours for collection. Please note: repeat medication will be reviewed by our doctors at six monthly intervals.
Results; most blood test results are received from the laboratory within 1-2 days but this can vary. Other samples (eg throat swabs, urine and stool specimens) requiring bacterial analysis may take longer 3-4 days. Xray and scan results may take up to 10 days.You may attend in person or telephone the receptionist for your results during opening times. She may be able to tell you herself or may refer you to a nurse for more detailed information. Cervical smear results will be posted to you.
Change of address; please inform us if you change your address or mobile phone number. If you move outside our Practice area we will be able to supply you with information regarding your nearest Doctor's Practice.
The Health Centre has disabled access, via the lift between Founders Main Reception and Crosslands, or by prior arrangement, from inside the North Quad. If your disability / illness doesn't enable you to attend the Health Centre please inform one of our nurses.
HEALTH CENTRE REGISTRATION
If you live in Halls of Residence at Royal Holloway College or in Englefield Green, parts of Egham, Old Windsor or Windsor you are encouraged to register with the University Health Centre. This is not included in your university registration. However, please note that you can only be registered at one Medical Practice during your time at university.
Please complete all the sections of the medical questionnaire which is in your Welcome pack. Take it with you to the Windsor Building (room 002) during Freshers Registration week with your National Health Service card (if you have one), student number and one passport size photograph. After Freshers Week all registrations will be dealt with in the Health Centre Monday to Friday between 9.00am and 11am
Overseas Students; If you are registered on a course of full time study in the UK for six months or more you are entitled to register with the UK National Health Service. All overseas students registering with the NHS will be required to present a valid passport, visa and student number. Overseas students who have lived in the UK prior to coming to this university must produce evidence of previous address.
Before leaving home please check that your immunisations are complete and in date, and in particular make sure you have had your vaccinations for Meningitis and Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) before coming to university.
If you are taking regular medication (including oral contraceptives) you should bring sufficient supplies to last for at least two months. If you are from overseas please also bring full details of all medicines. Some medications may not be available in the UK.
You should also bring with you to university a small personal first aid kit including plasters and your preferred pain medication.
There is no dental provision in the University Health Centre, so you are advised to have a routine check-up before leaving home. In an emergency we can advise on local dentists.
