Welcome to teaching excellence
The Department of Geography is one of the leading departments in the UK, with our research singled out as ‘world class’ and ‘internationally excellent’ (RAE 2008) and our teaching achieving 100% for 'overall satisfaction' in the latest National Student Survey.
The 2008 UK Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) placed the Department in the top tier of Geography departments in the United Kingdom. Our research environment identified as being 'world class' and 'internationally excellent'
| In the latest 2011 National Student Survey, the Department was a leader in overall student satisfaction| with exceptional scores of 100% for our human geography (BA) degrees and 99% for our physical geography (BSc) degrees. This is indicative of the commitment and energy that we put into our teaching.
As Head of Department, I am very proud of our distinctive research and teaching profile. Our undergraduate students benefit from strong pastoral and tutorial support, and are bound together through an extensive fieldwork programme currently including locations in Kenya, New York, Southern Spain and Ireland. Our postgraduate students are very much central to the research culture of the Department, and are a constant source of energy and new ideas. Together, we are all part of a close knit community.
