Research Interests

I am a research fellow in the Department of History at Royal Holloway. I am supported by a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship. My research focuses upon US politics since 1945, with a particular emphasis upon competing ideologies, grassroots activism and presidential contests. At present, I am working full time on a biography of the controversial polemicist Patrick Buchanan.

I have a book coming out in 2010 that is a political biography of Ted Kennedy and is based upon my PhD research at Trinity College, Cambridge. I have written for The Spectator, History Today and The Guardian and talked about US history on Radio 4, Radio 5 and Channel 4 News. In 2006, I published a study of the 2005 British general election called The End of Politics.
