The College provides bridge funding for circumstances where there is a need to keep a current post doc or Research Assistant employed on an externally funded grant and whose funding has come to an end on an externally funded grant with a gap until the start of a new award on which the person will be employed. With regards the new award there must be evidence that the award is confirmed. Bridging funds are for a maximum period of six months. In such circumstances the PI is required to submit the request through their HoD to the Dean outlining the current situation and giving a clear justification as to why the person needs to be maintained on the new grant together with evidence that external funding will be available on completion of the bridging funding.
The Dean will submit the request to College Planning and Resources Committee for approval. You will be informed about the outcome of your request as soon as possible.
Please ensure you submit your request well ahead of the need to ensure all the relevant information is in place and to allow time for the request to be processed and a decision made.
