Royal Holloway awarded multi-million pound grant for cyber security research training

Description: Royal Holloway today received a grant of £3.8 million from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills to host a new Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in cyber security.

Description: The Information Security Group (ISG) at Royal Holloway, University of London is looking for outstanding young graduates to fill 10 well-funded doctoral studentships in Cyber Security starting in October 2013. Possible research topics include the basic components of security services, such as cryptographic algorithms and trusted hardware; management of cryptographic keys; the correctness of the design and implementation of security protocols; the design of security services for embedded systems; business information systems, telecommunications networks and critical infrastructure; the detection and analysis of malware; and the study of economics, psychology, organizational theory, design theory and sociology in the context of information and cyber security.

Description: Applications are invited for a Research Assistant position in the Information Security Group at Royal Holloway to work on novel applications of Game Theory to Information Security. The successful applicant will work with Dr Carlos Cid and other members of the ISG investigating the modelling and design of secure protocols and services based on game-theoretical techniques. This will involve fundamental research on both the design of protocols and systems that can be proven to be secure under the rational-player scenario, as well as the development of specific game-theoretical tools that are suitable to the study their security.

AHRC has recently released interviews made during the day. You can see and hear Lizzie talking about her work on AHRC's YouTube page.

Description: The 18th European Symposium on Research in Computer Security (ESORICS 2013) will be held in Egham, UK at Royal Holloway, University of London on the 9th-13th September 2013. Several co-located workshops will be held in conjunction with the symposium.

Description: Lizzie Coles-Kemp's AHRC Connected Communities Report has recently been published. The project investigated why informational support services are not used by some families with a family member in prison. The project focused on service design and covered issues related to identity, privacy, trust and ontological security.

Description: ISG researchers Carlos Cid and Gordon Procter have won the best paper award at the 20th International Workshop on Fast Software Encryption (FSE 2013), held in Singapore on the 11th-13th March 2013. The award for their paper "On Weak Keys and Forgery Attacks against Polynomial-based MAC Schemes" was presented to Gordon during the workshop rump session on Tuesday evening.

Description: The ISG will be exhibiting at the Connected Communities Showcase 2013 which will be taking place in Central London on the 12th March 2013. Dr Lizzie Coles-Kemp led a team of artists and community groups to explore how informational support is provided to families separated by prison. They will be presenting a mixture of artwork and video from this AHRC (Arts & Humanities Research Council) funded project at the showcase.
