Printing facilities

This page provides information to enable you to make use of the printers that are situated within the Libraries and PC Labs around Campus.

Which printers can I print to?

All printing is to Multi-Functional Devices (MFDs), which can both print and photocopy using integrated control panels to release jobs. You can print from any of the following Open-Access PC Labs/Library areas.

Bedford Library level 2:

  • A number of black & white MFDs
  • Two colour MFDs

Computer Centre reception

  • Two black & white MFDs
  • One colour MFD

Founder's Library ground floor

  • Several black & white MFDs

Other B&W MFDs

  • Bourne Yorkon PC Lab (map

How to print & photocopy

  1. Open the Print dialogue box for the application you are using.
  2. Make any changes you require, e.g. select a different printer and/or select single-sided printing.
    Note: The Print dialogue box will default to the \rhulprintB+W" queue.
  3. Click on OK in the Print dialogue box to send the job to the printing system

You will then need to release the print job by:

  • Tapping the touch-sensitive screen to activate it and logging on with your username and password. Note: The keyboard can be enlarged by tapping Enlarge On at the bottom of the screen.
  • Select Print (or Copy & Scan to photocopy rather than print).
  • Tap Login and select the work you wish to print. 
  • Press the blue Start button on the control panel below the screen to print the work.
  • Logoff by pressing the key button. 

Printing from my own laptop or computer

Wifi-PrinterYou can set up your own laptop/computer so that you can print to any of the MFDs with integral control panels in the libraries and PC suites. 

To set up your device to print to these printers

Ensure that you are connected to CampusNet| or CampusAnywhere VPN| if offsite and install these drivers|

To send your job to a printer

  • Connect to CampusNet or CampusAnywhere VPN
  • Open the Print dialogue box of the application you are using.
  • Click on the down-arrow to the right of the Name: panel and select the print queue you wish to use:
    To print to a black & white MFD select B+W
    To print to colour MFD select Colour
  • Click on OK and you will be prompted to enter your username. Your job will then be sent to the MFDs and be available for 48 hours

To print your work

  • Enter your username and password on the touchscreen panel.
  • Tap Print (or Copy & Scan to photocopy rather than print).
  • Tap Login and select the work you wish to print
  • When you have finished press the key button on the panel to logout.

Printing charges

A charge is made for all printing, which is carried out via your Computer Centre Printing Account. You must have sufficient funds in order to print.

Note:

The default is to print your work double-sided in all Open-Access PC Labs and Library areas.

If you wish you can change this, for example to print single-sided, from the properties tab within the printer dialogue box in the application being used. 

Paying for printing & checking your balance

To pay for your printing you need to have sufficient funds in your Computer Centre printing account. To view your account summary go to printing.rhul.ac.uk| and enter your username & passwordkiosk.

Payment Kiosks

Kiosks accept all UK notes, £2 and £1 coins and are located:

  • On Level 2 of Bedford Library (available during opening hours)
  • In the Reception Area of the Computer Centre (available 24/7)

Making online payments

Deposits into your printing account can be made online 24/7. To do this:

  • Visit printing.rhul.ac.uk and login with your username & password to see your account summary.
  • In the My Account panel on the left click on the Online Payment link.
  • Once your payment has been accepted it will be immediately added to your printing account.

Changing to single-sided printing

By default, all printers are set to double sided printing. When you open the print dialogue box from any application you can change this as follows: 

  • Select the Colour or B+W printer 
  • Click the properties button to the right

  • You can select between 1 and 2-sided printing via the Print Type drop down box
