Searching the library catalogue
Use Quick Search to find books
Search in the Quick Search box from the library catalogue| home page for books, by entering a keyword from the title e.g. 'war', and the author's surname e.g. 'Jones'. Press Go.
Click on location to see if the item is available for loan. Check the due date column - if the item is available this will display 'on shelf'. If a date is displayed the item is out on loan until that date.
Check the library, collection, and classmark| to find out where the book is shelved.
Clicking on the classmark will also take you to a map showing you where the item is.
Searching for a print journal
Select 'Journal search (Print & Electronic)' if you are looking for either print or electronic copies of a journal. Enter the first one or two keywords from the journal title e.g. 'Psychology' and 'Health'. Then press 'Location'. The location will be displayed showing something like this:
Bedford Journals
Vol. 2, 1997-
The journal can be found in the Bedford Library journals collection on Level 1. The holdings show that we have all issues from Volume 2, year 1997, onwards. Notice that the dash after 1997 means that we do not just have volume 2, 1997 but we have this volume, and all the issues that follow.
Searching for an e-journal
If you are searching for electronic journals then choose 'Electronic Journal search'.
Enter one or two keywords from the journal title e.g. 'Psychology' and 'Health' and press Go.
Click on the 'Find it at RHUL' button to view what holdings are available in full-text. Follow the link through to view full-text, or choose one of the other options to search library holdings, search the holdings of other libraries, or 'Ask a librarian', if full-text is unavailable.

Searching for a video or DVD
Select 'video and DVD search'. Enter one or two keywords from the title, or the actor or director's surname, and press Go. Click on location to see if the item is available for loan.
Check the due date column - if the item is available this will display 'on shelf', if a date is displayed the item is out on loan until that date. Check the library, collection, and classmark| to find out where the book is shelved.
Search for items on a particular subject
To search for any item on a particular subject choose 'Subject search'. Enter one or two subject keywords e.g. 'History' and 'Mathematics', and press Go. Click on location to view information as usual.
