About us

The Mathematics Department at Royal Holloway is a lively and friendly place with an international reputation for the quality of its teaching and research.

Academic staff are active in pioneering research which is making an impressive impact on the world stage. This strong research culture influences our curriculum, helping students to keep in touch with the latest developments in the field.

The department has about 35 academic members of staff who teach a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses and do research in a number of areas in pure mathematics, statistics, quantum dynamics and information security.

We have about 350 undergraduate students, 120 taught postgraduates and 50 PhD researchers.

The Mathematics Department is in the McCrea Building (named after Professor Sir William McCrea, FRS, Head of Mathematics, 1944-1966). It contains staff offices, lecture and tutorial rooms, and a mathematics computer room.
