About us

Our nationally and internationally-renowned Music department is one of the UK's largest. Our teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels has been consistently at the forefront of the discipline.

We are currently the number one Music department in the UK in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise and awarded the highest grade of 5* in the two previous assessment exercises (1996 and 2001).  We were also recently placed in the top 10 UK Music departments in the 2014 Complete University Guide, which takes into account student experience, research excellence and graduate prospects.
