How to Apply
Admissions
Applicants should apply through UCAS. On receipt of the application all suitable candidates are invited to visit the Department. An interview permits us to assess your potential and commitment to the subject, and allows you to ask questions about the course, teaching methods, College life, and so on. You can also meet some of our students, tour the campus, and see some of the research being undertaken in the Department.
Applications for all our degree programmes are treated similarly; you need not apply for more than one degree programme and, if you receive or accept an offer of a place, you may change your mind about your choice of degree programme when you first register. However, our advice is that if you have any inclination to take an MSci (4-year) rather than a BSc (3-year) degree it is better to apply for the MSci programme as this will allow you to retain as much flexibility as possible. We can give you further advice on this when you come for interview.
Entrance requirements: The minimum requirement is two A2-levels (or equivalent qualifications) in Mathematics and Physics. In practice, most entrants have three A-levels or more.
The typical offer for entry, to both our BSc and MSci programmes, is usually in the range
AAA - ABB including Mathematics and Physics.
Candidates, especially overseas and mature candidates, who wish to discuss their qualifications should contact the Admissions Tutor. In the case of non-UK qualifications the principle consideration is usually the level of calculus studied. We consider all students who we believe to be able to meet the intellectual demands of the course.
