Phys Soc
Foreword
The Royal Holloway Physics Society (RHPS) is a student society which is not a part of the Students Union, but is a part of the Physics Department. Every Physics student gets a membership automatically upon enrolment. The RHPS has no membership fees. We encourage participation and any kind of contribution to the RHPS. Our aim is to let every Physics student know that the RHPS is here to help them in whatever way we possibly can. If you want to get involved, contact a member of the Society to find out more. Peace, Love and Physics.
We were told...
The President is the figurehead of the society. It falls on the President to have a dream for the RHPS at Royal Holloway, a mission to achieve, to maintain his/her committee and steer them toward maximum fun for all. Vice-President is in charge of all communications to the community monthly emails, maintenance of the Facebook page, taking photos of all the events making posters etc. Social Secretary thinks up new ideas for drinks socials new games, dress up themes, discussion topics etc and then making sure they happen. Social Secretary a.k.a. Fun Master. Head of Astronomy consults with the department about dome usage and is generally in the know about important astronomical events so that we can get a team up there to watch it. Postgraduate Rep - We want the postgraduates to know that you are not excluded from the physics society in fact quite the opposite. This could be a great opportunity to boost the prestige of postgraduate research at RHUL and communicate with the wider Royal Holloway physics community. Join in and let us know how we can help you make things happen.First Year Rep (2009/10) - should excel at getting the first years involved with physics from the word go.
We told you...
Vince : "I was president in 08/09 I know what it takes to run the society. I know about the deadlines and the pressures on time and I want so much to make the experience we all have here at Royal Holloway to be one of the most enjoyable and most productive possible. where everyone is proud of the connections they've made and the skills and experiences they have acquired. I'm all about anything we can do to help us enjoy physics outside of the classroom, bonding experiences, talks, outreach, student support, seminars and mini projects. too many people loose the wonder of physics somewhere between applying for university and settling into a career. It's the job of the physics society to reclaim that."
Charlotte : I am running for vice-president next year as I would love to expand on the community we already have here in the physics department. I want to ensure everyone has the opportunities to take part in all it has to offer, socials, talks, career help and more, by making these events more known. Also, would love to help organize some more fun things for everyone to do together and try and make next year as good as it can be! (Oh, and am living with 3 other physicists next year so possible party/post social collapse venue right there…)
William : 1. I go to all the physics socials; 2. I'm easy to talk to outgoing friendly etc.; 3. I like to help people; 4. I'm not too shy.
Angelo : I already have some experience in working in accounting, and I am pursuing a future career in finance. I have already been elected to next years Investment Society committee, I hope this proves to you that I am financial capable of running the societies funds responsibly and innovatively next year.
Sarm : I think I'd be a good person to fill the role as I: => Try to keep up to date as best as possible on the latest news from various space organizations; => Am very enthusiastic about astronomical science in general; => I've had a little experience as a first year UG already, with the current Head Of Astronomy, so I know some basic information about the dome and its equipment; => Spoken to the current HOA to find out what duties the position entails; => Come from Swindon, the future site of the UK Space Administration.
