Research
The Physics Department is one of the major centres for Physics teaching and research within the University of London. The research programme is focused on two major research themes, and ranges from fundamental studies of the properties of matter to advanced applications of Physics.
The Particle Physics| theme covers the study of particle physics, from the science and technology of acceleration and beam manipulation, particle collision data analysis and processing, experimental searches for dark matter, and theory of the fundamental interactions of particles.
The Condensed matter| theme ranges from the fundamental study of quantum matter, both experimental and theoretical, to applied technologies such as terahertz imaging for healthcare.
Research is carried out in modern fabrication facilities| and research laboratories| in the department and at major European laboratories such as CERN|, ISIS| and DIAMOND|. The department also collaborates with other departments, facilities and institutions in the UK and across the world.
