I specialize in the politics of international law, the laws of war, international organizations and international legal institutions.  I also work in the areas of American and Canadian foreign policy and trans-Atlantic relations. I have a strong interest in the Cold War and international relations theory.

 

Presently I am working on two projects which combine these interests. The first is on the nature and politics of humanitarianism and the second is on the impact of Cold War politics on the development of international law and international legal treaties. I am also working on publishing my PhD thesis on the United States and the politics of the laws of war.

 

I am the coordinator for the British International Studies Association’s International Law Working Group (BI-LAW) and work with the Centre for European Politics here at RHUL. I also work with the International Law Section of the International Studies Association. I am currently the Program Chair for the section and will be the Chair in 2009-10.
